It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Club President John Davey, who died on Sunday 19 January after a long and brave battle against cancer.
JD, as he was universally known, had been President for many years. Before that, he was Club Chairman. John was the soul and heartbeat of the North Countrymen’s Club and it is no exaggeration to say the Club exists because of his tireless work, energy and enthusiasm.
He was last in the Club on 10 November last year when, despite his failing health, he helped organise and facilitate our annual Remembrance Day, which was a huge success. He even managed a pint or two of San Miguel!
Our thoughts are with his wife Janet, children Michael and Nancy, grandchildren Samuel, Jack, Elliot, and Charlotte and, of course his brother and our current Chairman, Geoffrey.
John’s funeral will be held at Colchester Crematorium on Thursday 27 February, at 11.30am. There will, of course, be a reception at the NCC.
John is pictured (first from right) in a typically jovial mood.
