A sizzling summer lined up

We have a fantastic summer lined up for our Members and their guests with a host of events planned.

World Cup
The World Cup, being hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico kicks-off on Thursday 11 June with the final taking place on Sunday 19 July. England’s group stage – and later-round matches we hope – will all be screened at the NCC.
Their group games are against:
Croatia, Wednesday 17 June, kick-off 9pm,
Ghana, Tuesday 23 June, kick-off 9pm,
Panama, Monday 27 June, kick-off 10pm.

Rugby Nations Championship
Staying on the sporting front, the Rugby Nations Championship gets underway in the summer with all the Home Nations involved. The full fixture list can be found at  https://www.world.rugby/beta/en/tournaments/nations-championship/2026 England have three games, two of which will be screened at Stadium NCC – v South Africa on Saturday 4 July, kick-off 4.40pm, and against Argentina on Saturday 18 July, kick-off 8pm. The match against Fiji on Saturday 11 July kicks-off at 1am – sorry, we won’t be open for that one!

Derby Day
The Epsom Derby is on Saturday 6 June with the runners and riders coming under starter’s orders at 4pm. The Derby is the richest and most prestigious flat horse race for three-year-old fillies and colts and is run over one mile, four furlongs, and 10 yards.
It’s always a fun occasion in the NCC with snacks and an on-the-day draw for Members and guests.

Getting quizzical!
We are holding a quiz every month throughout 2026 and here’s our summer line-up:
Saturday 6 June: Music quiz with Brian Bowling.
Saturday 25 July: General knowledge quiz with Roy Girard.
Saturday 15 August: Sports quiz with Bob Wailling.
They all  start at 7.45pm and there’s a round on the house for the winning team.

Annual barbeque
Our annual barbeque is back again on Saturday 29 August, the August Bank Holiday weekend. Burgers, bangers and lots of accompaniments will be available.
More details on this one, including cost to come in the next few weeks.

Days out
Our annual Golf Day is being held on Friday 10 July and this year we are heading for Braintree Golf Club. At the time of writing there are still some vacancies and interested Members should see the main noticeboard in the Club and/or read the weekly Cock o’ the North email update. The cost of the day is £80 per person.
And, we’re off again on our annual pilgrimage to Newmarket races. This one is on Saturday 1 August and the coach is already full. However, if you want your name on the reserve list, members should again see the main noticeboard in the Club and/or read the weekly Cock o’ the North email update.
