With the nights drawing in, the temperature dropping, the wind blowing and the heavens opening it’s undoubtedly time for dark ales and stouts.
And one of the very best is brewed at Mersea Island Brewery and carries the stamp of the North Countrymen’s Club (5%, £3.70/pint).
It is the brainchild of our very own “man behind the bar” Alex Johnson, with input from Bar Manager Danielle and Alex’s dad, Trevor, who is responsible for the eye-catching artwork.
The first keg was so popular it was finished almost as soon as the first pint was poured but it will be back very soon.
Here are just a couple of comments from Members:

Enjoyed it very much. A strong stout with a good, well-balanced flavour. Well done Alex. My only complaint is that it went too soon. More please!”
“Although it heralds the onset of autumn it’s great to see the return of dark beers – especially one of such quality.  In the words of Oliver Twist, “please  sir, can I have more.”
